Board of Directors

The FTA is incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001 as a company. It is governed by a Board of Directors who are elected by the membership. The role of the Board is to set policies, strategies and objectives in order that the FTA fulfils its obligations to its members.

Paul Travers FFTP

Paul has been active with the FTA for a number of years, most recently as the Chair of the NSW Technical Committee, Co-Chairing the 2007 FTA Congress held in Sydney, representing the FTA at the OTC Regulatory Round Table discussions, and hosting/chairing a number of FTA events.  He is also a member of FINSIA as a Senior Fellow and a member of their Financial Markets Advisory Group.

Paul currently leads Oakvale’s Sydney office as the Executive Director.  Oakvale, Australia’s largest independent financial risk management advisory firm, services over 200 clients with a range of services from treasury outsourcing, ALM advisory, funds advisory/management, online treasury system and back office support.  Paul has specific responsibility for developing opportunities and products, building Oakvale’s market profile, sourcing new and maintaining existing client relationships, management of Sydney office, staff and budget.   He continues to be sought out to provide strategic/policy advice to clients as well as providing financial market/treasury risk management training.

David Davies FFTP

David has been involved in Treasury since 1984, when he was appointed to set up the Pacific Dunlop Treasury operations in Melbourne. That role (in a recently deregulated financial market) was to set up their group currency, interest rate and commodity hedging as well as settlements and accounting operations to centrally manage their global financial market hedging requirements.

From late 1996, David worked briefly with Macquarie bank in their risk management advisory business, before moving to Rothschild Australia in Sydney as Director and Head of Treasury sales where he worked for 5 years. From January 2001 to July 2003, David was Group Treasurer for Austrim Nylex in Melbourne before relocating to Sydney as Group Treasurer for CSR Limited. From October 2007 until mid 2010 he has been Group Treasurer of Lion Nathan Limited and is currently the Treasurer of Caltex Petroleum Australia.

Having been a member of the FTA since approx 1985, David has enjoyed the benefits and learnings as well as the fellowship of being a member of the FTA through to today. During this time he has participated as programme organiser of an FTA subsidiary the Currency Club for approx 2 years in approximately 1987/88, then on the Editorial Committee of the FTA Magazine for 2 years in approx 2000/01. David has regularly contributed via presentations on various issues over the years in Australia and on one occasion to the FTA in Shanghia, China in November 2006.

Over the years the FTA has provided it's members with a wide range of learning opportunities and provides the Finance and Treasury professionals of Australia with a forum to meet and discuss issues of the day. FTA has made a considerable contribution to the Finance Industry in Australia and I look forward to contributing to their long term success.

   


Chris Dalton FFTP

Chris is the Chief Executive Officer of The Australian Securitisation Forum, the peak industry association for participants in Australia’s securitisation market.  He is also a Director Trustee of the Emergency Services and State Superannuation Fund, a 150,000 member exempt public sector super fund.  Prior to these roles Chris was the Country Head of Standard & Poor’s (S&P).  This role had responsibility for the management of S&P’s credit ratings, risk solutions, managed fund research, index services and financial data and information businesses in Australia and New Zealand. Chris joined S&P in 1990 and successfully established Standard & Poor’s as the leading ratings agency of mortgage and asset-backed securities. In 1997 Chris was awarded a McGraw-Hill award for management excellence and spent 3 years in New York in senior management of the global structured finance group. Prior to joining S&P he held roles in corporate banking, treasury, technology and auditing with Elders Finance & Investment Company Ltd, Shell Australia Ltd and Coopers & Lybrand.

Chris has been a member of the FTA for over 20 years and was made a Fellow in 2002. His experience in corporate treasury corporate banking and debt capital markets provides a diverse background from which to make a valuable contribution to the Board of the FTA. He is keen to work with the Board to rebuild the profile of FTA and contribute value to the members through advocacy of the interests of the members and to provide opportunities for members to build skills and influence the development of Australia's banking and debt capital markets.

 

Kate Duffy FFTP

Kate is the Principal of Kate Duffy Consulting, a boutique treasury consultancy specialising in capital raising, policy development and risk management.

Previous roles include:

- Group Treasurer for the Yalumba Wine Company, the largest independently owned winery in Australia, where she managed all facility, cash management, trade credit and hedging needs of the company.

- Treasurer for the Territory Insurance Office that incorporated both the Treasury balance sheet management and Investment management of the Insurance funds.

- Treasury roles in Santos (Adelaide), Bank of New York and Smurfit Kappa (Ireland)

 

 

Chris Zwolinski CFTP

Originally from New York, Chris commenced his career in New York with a small specialist municipal bond house and after several moves with other banks, joined Irving Trust Company, now owned by BNY Mellon. After several international postings with Irving, Chris landed in Sydney in 1988 to head Irving Trust's foreign exchange operations in Australia. In 1990 he joined Wormald International as Group Treasurer, and held a number of successive Group Treasurer roles at Qantas, Lend Lease and now as Group Treasurer at QBE Insurance Group Limited.

Stephen Barnes CFTP

Stephen has twenty years experience in Financial Markets. He spent ten years at ANZ in
various roles including Senior FX Trader, Senior Financial Controller – Global FX &
Commodities, and stream lead on Markets IT system projects. He also worked at Deloitte as a
consultant to large multinationals. He specialised in accounting and valuations of financial
instruments, Basel II and TOFA. More recently he was the Group Treasurer at a publicly listed
steel manufacturing and distribution company and currently is the CFO at a diversified group
which main business is managing a hedge fund. Stephen has been a member of the FTA for a
number of years and has presented at a number of FTA seminars and forums.

Dane Birdseye CFTP

Dane has close to 20 years experience in financial markets working for numerous investment and commercial banks in Perth, Sydney and London.  He has held various roles in front, middle and back office with 8 years advising clients from small business through to large institutions on various hedging strategies and instruments.  Dane has extensive knowledge of derivative hedging products over interest rate, foreign exchange and commodities markets.  Dane is an active member of the FTA and member of FINSIA and CPA.

 

Kylie Gallasch MFTA

Kylie has over 20 years experience in the Finance & Accounting sector and is Manager Corporate Accounting at the Australian Rail Track Corporation Ltd, a position she has held for the past 6 years.  Kylie's core competencies lie in the areas of Financial Governance, statutory reporting, taxation, financial systems, transactional services, fixed assets and treasury management.  Kylie joined the FTA in 2010 and has been an active member, in 2011 Kylie was a member of the FTA Public Sector Committee assisting with the 2011 Congress – Embracing the Volatility Wave.

 

 

 

Glen Giles CFTP

Glen has been the Financial Controller for Arcadia Energy Trading since its foundation in 2007.  Prior to this Glen performed various electricity risk managment roles for 7 years at Ergon Energy following on from his 10 years middle and back office financial markets experience at CBA in Sydney.  Glen has been responsible for the development of all commodity & currency risk management, accounting and treasury policies for Arcadia and has responsibility for all risk management and financial activities for Arcadia.
